All consultations are by appointment only.
Appointments are generally for one hour, though this can be negotiated to be
longer or shorter. Couples often prefer and appreciate a 1.5 hour session and
sometimes children and adolescents prefer and appreciate a half hour session.
Most consultations are conducted in office.
There have been situations were consultations have been conducted in clients
homes. Telephone and e-mail consultations can also be arranged.
Sessions can be once a week though this is rare
to every other week, once a month, or on an as need basis. How often a person,
family or couple comes is generally discussed at the first session, and again
varies depending on the presenting problem.
Some recent Canadian research suggests that on
average people see a family therapist for 10-12 sessions.* The number of
sessions varies depending on the presenting issues and the motivation to change.
