  Appointments:

All consultations are by appointment only. Appointments are generally for one hour, though this can be negotiated to be longer or shorter. Couples often prefer and appreciate a 1.5 hour session and sometimes children and adolescents prefer and appreciate a half hour session.

Most consultations are conducted in office. There have been situations were consultations have been conducted in clients homes. Telephone and e-mail consultations can also be arranged.

Sessions can be once a week though this is rare to every other week, once a month, or on an as need basis. How often a person, family or couple comes is generally discussed at the first session, and again varies depending on the presenting problem and client need.

Canadian research suggests that on average people see a family therapist for 10-12 sessions.* The number of sessions varies depending on the presenting issues and the motivation to change.

Full fee is $110.00CA per hour (includes HST) and pro-rated depending on length of session.

Some people have extended health insurance coverage through work.  Check to see if it covers the services of a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist or Social Worker, if so then it is likely the fee will be covered.  It is the responsibility of each client to recover fee expenses from his or her health insurance program.

Meet with Kevin for free:

A free half hour meeting can be arranged for a person, couple or family who wanting to interview Kevin before making a decision to work therapeutically with him.  This is an opportunity to meet him in person, see the office and ask questions about Kevin and his approach to therapy and to get some idea of what to expect during an actual counselling session. No therapy will be done during this time.

Kevin VanDerZwet Stafford is committed to ensuring the privacy of all clients. The following is the current confidentiality policy and guidelines.

All our conversations are confidential. I keep a written record of our meetings and conversations. This record is kept in a locked cabinet in my home office. There are five exceptions to the rule of confidentiality that you need to be aware of:

1. when you provide me with written permission to have information from your therapy sessions disclosed to another person(s) (eg: physician; another therapist; community agency). In this case you will sign an authorization for the release of information.

2. when you disclose to me or it becomes evident that you are at risk of injuring yourself or others (eg; suicide, assault, homicide). In this situation we need to access other resources as a means of helping to ensure your safety and the safety of others.

3. when you disclose that a child has been or is at risk of being physically, sexually or emotionally abused or neglect or, has been a witness to violence in the home. Ontario Provincial law requires that I make a report to Child and Family Services when I become aware that a child is at risk and in need of protection according to the Child Protection Act.

4. when you disclose that you have been abused by another helping professional who is a member of a profession regulated by the Health Professions Act (eg: doctor, social worker, etc).

5. when I am mandated (subpoenaed) by a court to disclose information in a legal proceeding.
